Capacity decrease, and also the raised expense of oil and fuel testify to the general deterioration of knots and engine units. The reason is deterioration of pistons, piston rings, destruction of a lining of a head of the block of cylinders, a burn-out and deterioration grew grey also heads of valves. Effective way of detection of the reasons of unsatisfactory work of the engine is compression check.

Compression check in cylinders of petrol engines

The prevention

The head of the block of cylinders is cast from an aluminium alloy, therefore be careful not to strip a thread in apertures for свеч ignitions.

1. Warm up the engine to normal working temperature.
2. Turn out candles.
3. Disconnect from the ignition coil a high-voltage wire.
4. Completely open throttle заслонку.
5. Screw in an aperture for a candle of 1st cylinder a compression measuring instrument, densely tighten.
6. Ask the assistant to press a pedal throttle заслонки and to include a starter (on carburettor and инжекторных engines). The starter should join two-three times for short time.
7. Define the indication of a manometre in the end of each inclusion of a starter and write down the maximum indication. Repeat procedure for each cylinder. Compare the maximum indication to the data resulted in Chapter 2 for the engine of corresponding model. Values of a compression in separate cylinders should not differ no more than on 0,7–0,85 атм.
8. If a compression below standard value fill in in the cylinder about 1 table spoon of oil for the engine and repeat measurements. If the compression has increased, it specifies in deterioration or breakage of piston rings, or the strengthened deterioration of walls of the cylinder. If pressure has not changed, the reason is leaky прилегание valves to saddles (repair клапанного the mechanism is required), or damage of a lining of a head of the block of cylinders near to the cylinder. If low value of a compression in two next cylinders which does not change at oil addition the lining of a head of cylinders is damaged is observed. For this reason oil and a cooling liquid can get into the combustion chamber. In lining damage specifies also occurrence of traces of a cooling liquid on oil щупе.

Compression measurement on diesel engines

Procedure of check differs nothing from described above, but has the features.

1. For diesel engines it is necessary to use the special measuring instrument of a compression calculated on ready more a high pressure.
2. It is necessary to remove tubes from all cylinders and atomizers with ring linings.
3. Track, that the valve for стравливания air from a compression measuring instrument has been closed.
4. At installation of atomizers replace ring linings.
