Order of adjustment of a backlash of valves

And – are regulated, when the piston № 1 is in ВМТ at the moment of a compression step

In – are regulated, when the piston № 4 is in ВМТ at the moment of a compression step

It is impossible to underestimate importance of correct adjustment of backlashes of valves as engine work completely depends on it. If backlashes are too great, the engine will work very loudly (the crash and knock in this case are characteristic) and the engine efficiency will be considerably lowered, as valves will open too late and to be closed too early. Even more serious problems arise, if backlashes of valves are too small. In this case valves can not be closed completely when the engine разогрет that will cause serious damages of the engine (burnt saddles of valves and / or cracks in a head of cylinders).

Adjustment of backlashes of valves

Backlashes of valves are checked by means of special щупов a necessary thickness which are inserted between коромыслом and a cam of the distributive valve. Щуп should enter into a backlash freely without superfluous effort.


The prevention

The engine should be cold when you check and regulate backlashes of valves.

1. Uncover heads of cylinders (subsection 3.3.6 see).
2. Establish the piston № 1 in ВМТ (subsection 3.3.4 see).
3. Inspect backlashes of valves № 1, 2, 3 and 6 (the valve № 1 is located in a forward part of the engine, and the valve № 8 – in a back part).
4. If adjustment carrying out is necessary, ослабьте a counternut and twist the adjusting screw коромысла, yet do not receive a necessary thickness of a backlash.
5. After you have adjusted a valve backlash, keep the adjusting screw in a motionless condition and tighten a counternut till the necessary moment of an inhaling.
6. After you have adjusted all four valves, turn a cranked shaft on one complete revolution (360 °) that the piston № 4 has appeared in ВМТ.
7. Inspect also adjustment of backlashes of valves № 4, 5, 7, and 8 (subitem 4-5 see).
8. After you have inspected also adjustment of backlashes of valves, establish a cover of a head of cylinders (subsection 3.3.6 see).
9. Put on a cover of a gear belt and establish a protective plate of the engine.
